Your guide to the Norwich driving test centre

Car driving tests in Norwich are taken at Norwich (Peachman Way), on Broadland Business Park in Thorpe St Andrew. Here is where it is, what happens on the day, and how to be ready for it.

Where it is

Plot 16A, Peachman Way, Broadland Business Park, Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich NR7 0WE. It is on the eastern edge of Norwich, close to the A47 at Postwick, so test routes can take in busy junctions, roundabouts and faster roads as well as quieter estates.

Our lessons cover the roads around the test centre, so the area feels familiar on the day, along with the wider mix of roads you will drive once you have passed.

What happens on the test

The car driving test takes around 35 minutes and includes:

  • An eyesight check: reading a number plate from 20 metres
  • Two vehicle safety questions: one “tell me” before you drive, one “show me” while you are driving
  • General driving in different road and traffic conditions (not on motorways)
  • One reversing exercise: parallel parking, parking in a bay, or pulling up on the right and reversing about two car lengths
  • Possibly an emergency stop
  • Independent driving, following a sat nav or road signs

Booking your test in 2026

Since 12 May 2026, only you can book, change or cancel your car driving test, and you need to pass your theory test before you can book it. You can only change a booking twice, so check the date works before you move it.

Test dates can be weeks or months away, so book as soon as you are able to. We will tell you honestly when you are ready, help you book on GOV.UK, and share tips on when and how often to check for earlier dates.

How we get you ready

In your lessons we practise every part of the test, on the kinds of roads you will meet around Peachman Way. Before the real thing you can do a full mock test, marked the way an examiner would, so nothing on the day is a surprise.

Booked your test already? Tell us the date when you get in touch, or call 07940 324811, and we will plan your lessons around it.

Ask on WhatsApp

How long is the driving test in Norwich?

Around 35 minutes, the same as anywhere in Great Britain. Allow extra time to arrive, have your documents checked and get your result afterwards.

Can my instructor sit in on my driving test?

Yes. The examiner will ask whether you want someone to sit in the back and hear your result and feedback. It is usually your instructor, but it can be a friend or relative over 16. They cannot help during the test.

How much does the driving test cost?

The DVSA charges £62 for a car practical test on a weekday and £75 for evenings, weekends and bank holidays. The theory test costs £23. These fees are paid to the DVSA, separately from your lessons.

Can you book my driving test for me?

Not any more. Since 12 May 2026, DVSA rules say only you can book, change or cancel your car driving test, and cancellation-finder apps are no longer allowed.

We still help at every step: we’ll tell you honestly when you’re ready to book, sit with you while you book on GOV.UK, show you how to add our instructor reference so the date works for your lessons, and share tips on when and how often to check for earlier tests. You can only change a booking twice, so it pays to get it right first time.
